The Project involved:

1. Extension Course and Teacher Training

2. Implementation of the "Doing What Matters in Times of Stress" protocol by Russ Harris (2016) in groups of young people aged 13 to 20 in public schools

3. Research to evaluate the effects of the intervention

Implementation

  • During the training, teachers go through the protocol and learn how to facilitate for the groups.

  • The intervention consisted of 5 sessions of 1.5 hours each in group settings with the students.

  • The groups consisted of up to 30 students facilitated by 2 teachers.

Social Issues

  • Demand: Anxiety, depression, relationship problems, aggression, and family issues.

  • Context: Pandemic, disruption of social interaction during adolescence, worsening of economic and vulnerability issues.

Intervention Objectives

  • Hone skills to cope with difficult emotions and respond consistently with personal values = dealing with adversities.

  • Improve the school environment.

  • Establish a network of mutual support among peers/youth.
     

Group and Professionals

  • School: Dom Nivaldo Monte

  • 10 participating psychologists from the Extension Course

  • 20 teachers

  • Over 250 students benefited in one semester!
